CIS sent grade level teams to the ROE Brain Games event held at John A. Logan College this week. This event required students to problem-solve and work collaboratively on Fantasy Fiction themed challenges. Our fourth and sixth grade teams brought home medals and advanced to the next round at Rend Lake College. Great job!

This morning, we kicked off PBIS Quarter 3 with schoolwide goals focused on responsibility and kindness!

During the first four weeks, students will focus on being responsible for their learning, with a goal of reducing referrals such as being unprepared or off task. Meeting this goal earns students a sweet treat from the candy cart.

In the second half of the quarter, the focus shifts to being responsible for our words and actions. We are committed to choosing kindness, with a popcorn party as the reward for meeting our goal.

If our entire school stays under 120 office referrals for the quarter, students will celebrate with a dodgeball tournament and a concession stand.

We visualized responsibility with a fun activity. Participants were given a pizza box to represent their "responsibilities." Their goal was to keep their responsibilities safe in the air, even when distractions (other participants) tried to knock them down.

Our gym was transformed into a Winter Wonderland as a term 2 behavior reward. Students watched a movie, enjoyed hot cocoa, made crafts, and played games while listening to music and enjoying time with friends. Tis the Season!

As we count down to Winter Break, we’ve teamed up with Tri-C to plan a series of holiday-themed spirit days that students may choose to participate in. This is not a fundraiser, but just a fun opportunity to spread some cheer as we wrap up Quarter 2!

This Thursday morning, CIS students will have the opportunity to visit the Carterville High School to watch this year’s fall play, The Great Gatsby. Students will be out of the building from approximately 8:15 am to 10:45 am.

We will be collecting a $1 donation from students, which will go directly to support the CHS Fine Arts Department.

This experience provides our students with a glimpse of our high school fine arts program and opportunities for their future!

I’m thrilled to share that Carterville Intermediate School has once again earned an Exemplary Summative Designation, placing us in the top 10% of more than 3,000 elementary schools across Illinois. This is our fifth time receiving this incredible honor!

This recognition isn’t about one moment or one measure. It’s the result of thousands of tiny tweaks made by teachers who inspire, students who strive, families who support, and staff who show up every single day to make learning come alive.

To our parents and community, thank you for your trust and partnership. To our staff, your passion and professionalism make CIS a place where kids grow, thrive, and belong. And to our students, you’re the reason we do what we do.

Together, we’ve built something special. Together, we continue to prove that consistent effort creates lasting excellence.
