On January 18, the Illinois Department of Public Health released a statement that our region (5) met the metrics to return to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan. In regards to athletics, low and medium risk sports are permitted to resume. The Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association has approved the immediate start to the junior high girls volleyball season.
If you interested in trying out for the team, you MUST be registered at www.cartervillelions.8to18.com
Additionally, you must have a current physical on file. Both of these items are required for participation and needed for planning our tryout to comply with distancing requirements.
Carterville Junior High will conduct tryouts for the team at CJHS on Monday, January 25.
6th grade: 3:30 – 5:15
7th/8th grade: 5:30 – 7:30
*According to guidance, students will need to wear a mask and bring their own water. Parents are not permitted to enter the gym.
Other things to consider when determining if you want to tryout and play:
1. Guidance is unclear on the number of people permitted in the gym at one time. It is a very real possibility that fans will be not permitted at games. We hope to receive more clear guidance on this issue soon.
2. The season will run through the month of February and possibly a week into March. A state series is to be determined, as another region in the association is still under Tier 3 restrictions.
Please remember that this is a very fluid situation and changes often. We will communicate what we know, when we know. Please contact me at bdiel@cartervilleschools.org with any questions.
