Keeping children safe takes all of us.
Earlier this month, every Carterville CUSD #5 employee participated in training focused on sexual abuse awareness, prevention, and recognizing the warning signs of grooming. We followed that training with a presentation open to parents and our broader community.
Since then, several families have asked about the training and the information that was shared. We thought others in our community might benefit from hearing more about it as well.
One of the most important messages was this: children should have positive relationships with caring adults — while also knowing how to recognize inappropriate boundaries, secrecy, isolation, and other warning signs, and knowing that it's always okay to speak up.
Our work will continue as we strengthen age-appropriate education for students and provide families with information and resources to help keep children safe.

Congratulations to our National Merit Scholarship Commended Students for being recognized for their outstanding scholastic talent! The National Merit Scholarship Corporation awards this honor to students scoring in the top 3–4% nationwide on the PSAT/NMSQT. Carterville High School is proud to recognize our very own Megan Harrell and Catherine Chyzhyk!

If your student has been eating breakfast and/or lunch at school, now is great time to check their balance and add funds if needed. Keeping accounts up to date helps our food service program continue to run smoothly.

Carterville CUSD No. 5 Reminder: Wednesday, September 30, is a 1-hr early dismissal for all buildings. Buses and Latchkey will run immediately following dismissal.

Teen Skills meets every Saturday at Cambria Park for hands-on activities, community projects, leadership skills, and plenty of fun along the way!
Unified PE brings our students together every day to build connections through sports and fun.
This semester, Mrs. Emrick’s 8th-hour PE class paired up with Mrs. Miller’s class to launch our new Unified PE program. Whether playing class favorites like sharks and minnows or taking center stage at the Homecoming pep session to lead the entire student body in the Cha Cha Slide, these student pairs have shown us what true inclusion looks like.
Thank you to our amazing students and staff for making this experience so special!

It’s almost Football Friday! Reminding all families that tomorrow is a Teacher In-Service Day, so there will be no school for students.

Please note that the starting location for today's Homecoming Parade has moved to Carterville Junior High School (instead of Christian Covenant Church).
The parade will start promptly at 1:00 PM. Due to the warm weather, we encourage all participants and spectators to stay hydrated and take extra heat precautions!
