The NAEHCY Scholars Program awards at least three $5,000 scholarships annually to postsecondary students who have experienced homelessness and are actively pursuing their post-secondary education.  For detailed information and the application, please click here. The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors each year. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, and their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. They award over $3.5 million annually in scholarships to young leaders. Visit www.coca-colascholarsfoundation.org for more information. Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsors the Voice of Democracy, a national patriotic speech writing competition open to 9th-12th grade students. Visit www.vfw.org/VOD/ for the application and more information. Entries must be submitted by October 31, 2024 to a local VFW chapter.

The purpose of the Golden Apple Scholars program is to recruit talented high school students who want to become teachers. Scholars agree to teach for five years in an Illinois school of need. Scholars receive $2500 each year for their freshman and sophomore years, and $5000 each year for their junior and senior years. With the addition of the four Summer Institute stipends of $2000 per summer, the total financial assistance package is $23,000. Click here for more details and to complete the application. Thomas H. Moore IEC Memorial Scholarships are awarded based on grade point average, college entrance test scores, work and volunteer experience, participation in school and civic activities, and knowledge of electric cooperatives, as demonstrated by a short essay. For more details, please click here. Deadline for submission and completion of applications is December 31, 2024.

The application for the 2025-2026 Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver is now available online. The Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver is a four-year in-state tuition waiver at the University of Illinois. The recipient may use his/her Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver at any of the University of Illinois campuses. Please refer to our website, osfa.illinois.edu.  Applicants will need to print out the application and mail it to our office with the required documents. Priority deadline is January 3, 2025.

The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship offers four-year, full-tuition scholarships to eligible students. For detailed information and the application, please visit https://www.netc.navy.mil/nstc/nrotc/. Application deadline is January 31, 2025.

The Williamson County Republican Cnetral Committee will award $1,000 scholarships to individuals who support the values of conservatism. Click here for more details and the application. Deadline to apply is February 1, 2025.

John A. Logan College offers a tuition waiver (up to 13 credit hours per semester) to a graduating senior who will be part of The Student Ambassador Program. The Student Ambassador Program is a leadership opportunity for students who are dedicated to serving and representing John A. Logan College. The mission of the Student Ambassador Program is to cultivate student leaders who will share the John A. The CBAI Foundation for Community Banking has announced its annual scholarship essay-writing contest. Essays are due by February 21, 2025 at 3 p.m. You may turn in your essay and application to your local Legence Bank or scan and email it to jgrinnell@legencebank.com. The Alumni Chapter of Beta Sigma Psi is offering a $3,000 scholarship given out to a Christian male freshman attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Fall 2025. There is no obligation to join Beta Sigma Psi or be related to a member of the fraternity to receive this award. Runners-up may be eligible for $500. The Kay and Walter Pape Scholarship from the Zion United Church of Christ is a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior or to an applicant who is presently attending college or trade school, or is enrolled in building construction classes, or has shown interest in the field of education through volunteer work in early childhood or in the field of education. Williamson County AMVETS Post 31 is offering $500 scholarships for students who are a veteran or a child/grandchild of a veteran. Click here for more details and the application. Deadline to submit the application is February 28, 2025.

Farm Credit Illinois will award thirty $2,500 Agriculture Scholarships. Information and the application are available at www.farmcreditIL.com/scholarship. Application deadline is February 28, 2025.

Marion Memorial Health Foundation Board is pleased to provide the following scholarships: $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from the area high schools (including Carterville) and the R.D. Morgan, M.D. medical scholarship to a Marion High School senior who is pursuing a career as a medical doctor. If no MHS senior meets the qualifications, the scholarship will be open to area schools. The Kegan Johns Memorial Scholarship Program will offer mulitple scholarhsips to graduating seniors. The one-time grant will be presents to the recipient with no restrictions or stipulations. Although academic standing along with school and community involvement will be considered when awarding this scholarship, anyone may apply. Applications must be recevied by March 5, 2025.

Illinois Elks Children's Care Program offers two scholarships; one for students who will major in Physical or Occupational Therapy and one for students entering a Physical or Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. Applications are available online at ilinoiselksccc.org. Completed applications must be submitted to the Herrin Elks Lodge by March 7, 2025.

The Carterville Champions Fund was founded in the year 2023 to award scholarships to graduating seniors of Carterville High School who best exemplify the characteristics of Citizen Scholar Athletes. Peoples National Bank has provided financial services to Southern Illinois since 1909. In keeping with the tradition of community service and commitment to the education of future civic and business leaders, Peoples National Bank has established an educational scholarship to assist high school graduates in continuing their education at a university, college, trade or vocational school. Each recipient of the Peoples National Bank scholarship will receive a $500 scholarship. Detailed information and the application can be found here. Deadline to submit applications is March 7, 2025.

The Illinois Chemical Education Foundation (ICEF) presents a number of scholarships each year to high school senior science students. The ICEF's objective is to recognize and honor high school seniors who have exemplified outstanding achievement in academics, extracurricular/employment activities, and community involvement. One $500 scholarship is being awarded by Illinois Administrative Professionals in honor of Kathryn G. Hansen. Ms. Hansen was one of the founding members of the State Universities Civil Service System, and Illinois Administrative Professionals, an organization composed of employees in civil service classifications with qualifications that meet or exceed those of Office Support Associate. The scholarship is to be used for tuition, books, or other related educational expenses at any university within the State of Illinois. Sheriff Jeff Diederich will be awarding one scholarship in the amount of $500. Applicants must be permanent Illinois residents and scholarships must be utilized at institutions of higher learning within the State of Illinois. Applications are now available at your local Sheriff’s office or on the ISA Website. Students must complete the application, answer the essay question and return all documentation to the Sheriff’s office in their permanent county of residence by March 14, 2025. The Carterville Schools Foundation 2025 Scholarship application is now available. The scholarship is a one-time, $1,000 award, to be used by the recipient for academic purposes only. The applicant must be a graduating senior at Carterville High School, and she or he must be admitted with the intent to enroll no later than the Fall 2025 academic school year at a community college, four-year university, or a trade school located within the southern Illinois region. Recognizing that mental health is a vitally important community issue, St. Louis Area Mensa has established the St. Louis Area Mensa Healthy Minds Scholarship. This scholarship is for a student who plans to pursue a degree in a Mental Health field. For more details about this scholarship and the application process click here. The application and all materials are due March 21, 2025.

We at Black Diamond Harley-Davidson know that community colleges pave the way of the futures of thousands of young adults each year. It is with honor and great excitement that Black Diamond Harley-Davidson is continuing the Black Diamond Harley-Davidson Community College Scholarship for 2025, an award of $1,000. Students must enroll full-time at John A. Logan College for the Summer and/or Fall of 2025. If you'd like to be considered for this award, please complete this Google Form by 3:00 p.m. on March 21, 2025.

Members of the Daughters of Isabella are offering scholarships to assist a person who is pursuing an academic/vocational program. Applicants must be participating Catholic Senior Girls, full time students, graduates of high school this year, involved in church, school and community activities. The Herrin Elks Lodge #1146 is offering a scholarship to a graduating high school student who will enroll in a college or university. The student must be a relative of a member of Herrin Elks Lodge #1146. Applications can be downloaded here or picked up in the Guidance Office. Completed applications and other materials must be returned in person to the Herrin Elks Lodge by 5:00 p.m. on March 29, 2025.

The Sara Elizabeth Stubblefield Memorial Scholarship is available for a student living with epilepsy and seizures, who exhibits a strong commitment to his/her education and perseverance in eliminating the obstackles epilepsy and seizures may present. American Legion Auxiliary Unit 347 will offer a $500 scholarships to CHS graduates to be used for tuition/books. Applicants must be a direct descendent of a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, living or deceased. Application can be downloaded here. ServPro is very excited to announce that this year, we will be providing supplemental scholarship money to several high school seniors around Southern Illinois! The Tri-State Desk and Derrick Technical or Trade School scholarship opportunity is offered to a worthy high school graduate or GED recipient that plans to attend a trade school in 2025. The Mae West Scholarship, Jett West Scholarship, and Wyatt Allen Lindsey & Elizabeth Anne Lindsey Scholarship applications are now available. A native of Carterville, Anne West was a journalist turned professional freelance writer and was the author of both short and book-length fiction. Anne graduated from Carterville High School in 1931 and graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1935 and later did postgraduate work in journalism at the University of Missouri. Three scholarships will be awarded to one male graduate of CHS, one female graduate of CHS, and either a male or female graduate of CHS. Download an application here. First Southern Bank is offering two $500 scholarship to graduating seniors from Carterville High School. Interested students should submit this form no later than April 4, 2025.

The Emily Hastie Scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of Carterville High School. The JALC Foundation will offer the Administrative Services Division Scholarship for $1500 for the 2025-2026 school year. The scholarship will be awarded to one high school senior graduating this spring from a public high school in the JALC district. Carterville High School will nominate one student for consideration. To be considered, you must submit 2 letters of recommendation, your transcript and SAT scores, and any other forms of candidate endorsement to the guidance office by April 4, 2025.

The JALC Foundation will offer the Allan and Wanda McCabe Education Scholarship for $2500 for the 2025-2026 school year. The scholarship will be awarded to one high school senior graduating this spring from a public high school in Williamson County. Carterville High School will nominate one student for consideration. To be considered, you must submit 2 letters of recommendation, your transcript and SAT scores, an essay that answers the topic “Why I am Pursuing a Degree in Education (Elementary or Secondary),” and any other forms of candidate endorsement to the guidance office by April 4, 2025.

Students planning to attend JALC and enroll in a Science or Applied Science degree program can apply for the $3000 per year Altekruse Scholars Scholarship (A complete list of eligible degree programs is on the application.) Click here to submit the Google Form Application by April 4, 2025. One CHS graduate will be awarded this scholarship.

The Carterville Banking Center, Bank of Herrin Scholarship is a $1,800 scholarship given to a senior graduating from Carterville High School who will be attending JALC. Click here to complete the Google Form Application (must use school email). Application deadline is April 4, 2025.

The Carterville Chamber of Commerce and John A. Logan College will offer a $1,680 scholarship to attend JALC. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Applications can be completed here. Deadline to submit the application is April 4, 2025.

Students planning to attend JALC and enroll in the Criminal Justice program can notify a counselor by email of their interest in the $1000 Charles Garnati Memorial Scholarship by April 4, 2025.

The Dale L. Usher Scholarship for $1,500 will be awarded to a Carterville High School graduate enrolled in the Construction Management program at John A. Logan College. Click here to complete the Google Form Application (must use school email). Application deadline is April 4, 2025.

The Drs. Robert & Karla Mees Scholarship for $1,000.00 will be awarded to a graduating senior from a Carterville High School. The scholarship can be used during the 2025 fall semester and 2026 spring semester for attendance at John A. Logan College. Click here for more information and to complete the application. The JALC Foundation will offer an Imagine Scholarship for $500. The scholarship will be awarded to one high school senior graduating this spring from a public high school in the JALC District. Carterville High School will nominate one student for consideration. To be considered, you must submit letters of reference, your transcript and SAT scores, and a written essay. Essay topic: “Embodying the Spirit of the 1960’s (A Great Sense of Possibilities of What You Can Achieve),” and explain how the scholarship can help you fulfill your college/future educational goals. Submit all materials to the guidance office by April 4, 2025.

The JALC Foundation will offer the Leon Striegel, DVM Veterinarian Scholarship. The $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior graduating this spring from a public high school in the JALC district. Applicants must be enrolled in the Pre-Veterinary Program. Carterville High School will nominate one student for consideration. To be considered, you must submit 2 letters of recommendation (science teachers suggested), your transcript and SAT scores, and any other forms of candidate endorsement to the guidance office by April 4, 2025.

Mama and Papa C Scholarship applications are now available. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors at Carterville High School who are attending JALC in the Fall of 2025. The Richard and Evelyn Helms Memorial Scholarship for $3,000 is available to two CHS students planning to attend JALC. Click here to complete the Google Form Application (must use school email). Applications must be submitted by April 4, 2025.

The Butch Waggoner Family Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 will be awarded to a CHS graduate who is community minded and plans to attend JALC in the fall. The recipient will be someone who volunteers and works to make a difference in their community and is interested in pursuing a career in nursing or teaching. Karen Rushing Young Scholarship applications are now available. Scholarships will be awarded to students attending JALC in the fall and majoring in education. Click here to complete the Google Form Application (must use school email). Applications must be submitted by April 4, 2025.

Tri-C Memorial Scholarships to attend SIUC and JALC will be awarded for the 2025-26 school year. Applicants must be graduating seniors at CHS, enrolled at either Southern Illinois University-Carbondale or John A. Logan College and have a GPA of "B" or better. Download the application and more information here. Applications must be postmarked by April 7, 2025.

Hill Scholarship applications are now available. Students must attend John A. Logan College for two years, earn a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester and remain in good standing at the college. The award also provides monies for two additional years at a four-year college or university under the same requirements. The amount of the award is determined annually. In addition to other eligibility requirements, only those seniors planning to attend John A. Logan College should download an application. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Gamma Kappa Omega Chapter is awarding the Thelma Gibbs Walker Scholarship for qualified students. Applicants must be full-time African American seniors who reside in Jackson/Williamson Counties. They must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrate community service involvement. The Kent Alexander Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to select Carterville High School graduating seniors who exhibit academic success, a love of learning, model behavior, and respect for the school community at large.  The application is available here. Print your completed application and submit to the guidance office on or before April 11, 2025.

The Bill & Lois Malone Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship awarded to two Carterville High School graduating seniors who plan to pursue a career in Early Childhood Education. Priority will be given to students planning to attend a college or university in the Southern Illinois region. Print your completed application and return to Malone’s Early Learning Center (108 Walnut Street, Carterville) by April 15, 2025.

Carterville High School Spanish/World Language Club is pleased to announce it will award a scholarship to a graduating high school senior. Click here for the application. Application deadline is April 15, 2025.

The Williamson Masonic Lodge 802 Scholarship will be awarded to two seniors, one boy and one girl, from Carterville High School. The scholarships will be awarded to students who will be attending any two-year or four-year college/university. Click here for the application. Completed applications must be submitted to the CHS guidance office by 12:00 p.m. on April 15, 2025.

The Williamson Masonic Lodge 802 Scholarship will be awarded to one Carterville senior who plans to pursue a trade career. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who will attend any two-year college, trade school or apprenticeship. Click here for the application. The Deck Family is offering the Mike Deck Memorial Scholarship to a graduating CHS football player. Coach Deck was the football coach from 1976 to 1987, winning numerous games and bringing statewide notoriety to the town’s football program. The criteria for this memorial scholarship are pillars of character exemplified by Coach Deck, including loyalty to the program, leadership on and off the field, work ethic, sportsmanship and academic success. Damas Latinas invites seniors to participate in the Spanish Essay Contest 2025. Damas Latinas is a nonprofit organization founded in 1996 in Southern Illinois. It has created a scholarship with the purpose of promoting among high school students the value of education as well as the importance of studying the Spanish language. They will offer scholarships to seniors who have: a 3.0 GPA or higher, two years of Spanish, one letter of recommendation from a school faculty member, and an essay written in Spanish. The LaVern and Nola McEntire Lineworker’s Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship that will help pay for costs to attend the lineworker’s school conducted by the AIEC in conjunction with Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, Illinois. Children of cooperative members, relatives of cooperative employees or directors, individuals enrolled in the Lincoln Land lineworker’s school and individuals who have served or are serving in the armed forces or National Guards are all eligible for the lineworker’s scholarship. This scholarship will be based on an essay, a biographical statement, references and a recommendation that will be submitted. The deadline for this scholarship is April 30, 2025. The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) is pleased to announce that the application for the 2025-26 Nursing Education Scholarship (NES) Program is now available. Click here for program details and the application. Applications must be submitted on or before April 30, 2025.

Williamson County Crimestoppers is offering the Max Stucker Memorial Scholarship. This award is a $500 per semester scholarship to a student who has resided in Williamson County for at least one year, plans to attend a two or four year accredited collge/university in the state of Illinois, and will enroll in a law enforcement or criminal justice program. Applications must be postmarked by May 1, 2025.

The 2025 Egyptian Electric Cooperative (EECA) Annual Meeting Scholarship application is now available! The application is open to any dependents/children of member-consumers of EECA (receiving electricity from EECA) that are pursuing further full-time education in the fall. Click here for eligibility requirements and the application. Deadline to apply is 4:00 p.m. on July 3, 2025.

The State of Illinois offers 40 Illinois State Tuition Waivers for every State University that offers the Army ROTC program. These tuition waivers are offered for the fall and spring semesters. If awarded, 100% tuition and the General Activity Fee will be waived for that semester. A student must apply every semester. Applications are distributed the first week of each semester, and waivers are awarded by mid-semester. If awarded, the recipient must meet the basic requirements to maintain the tuition waiver for that semester. John A. Logan College offers many scholarships through the JALC Foundation. The general application can be found here. The deadline is ongoing, but we recommend completing the application as soon as possible to be considered for the most scholarships.
